Cans must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection.  All refuse needs to be inside the can, and should not stick up out of the can above the rim.  The can will be dumped only one time per week. Refuse left outside the can in bags or boxes will not be taken.  Please place shredded paper, newspapers, styrofoam packing, feathers, plastic grocery bags, etc. in a tied garbage bag to prevent spilling.

Do not put in refuse container:

  • Hot coals
  • Chemicals or flammable liquids
  • Dead animals
  • Remodeling debris
  • Carpet and/or pad
  • Dirt or rocks
  • Tires
  • Batteries
  • Appliances, such as water heaters, microwaves, etc.
  • Anything that extends beyond the rim of the can

GO GREEN

Green waste containers are an economical and ecological alternative to having an extra black container.  They are half the cost, and they make it possible for residents to participate in the green waste recycling program.  It is a good way to have your green waste picked up at your house, rather than transporting it to the recycling center on West Forest Street.  As an added advantage, the green can may be used for household waste from the beginning of December to the end of March (exact dates will be announced each year).

During the summer when using the green can for green waste, it is important to note that only green waste must be put in the can. Do not put glass, paper, or cardboard in the green container.  Bins are available at the vacant lot west of Wells Fargo Bank at Forest Street and 100 West and also at the recycling site at 1650 West Forest Street for other items.  We can accept paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and scrap metal at those locations.  The scrap metal and aluminum bins are at the recycling site. There is nothing in place at this time to accept glass.

Spring Cleanup

Spring cleanup began Monday, March 31, 2008, and ended Friday, April 25, 2008. This will allowed each residence to have four extra pickups.  The extra pickup was on the day following the regular collection day.  Monday the 31st was the first extra pickup for those residences whose regular garbage day is on Friday.  Friday the 25th was the last extra pickup day for those residences whose regular pickup day is Thursday.  There will be no extras pickup after Friday, April 25th.  All cans should be curbside by 6:00 a.m. for the four weeks of the cleanup.
