The Storm Drain Division is supported by employees of the Water Division.

Every street in the City is swept at least one time per year.  Most roads are swept at least twice, and main roads are swept more often.  If cars, trailers, etc. are parked in the road, the sweeper goes around them, it gives the impression that the street has not been swept, when it actually has.

The street sweeper participates in road maintenance and leaf pickup as well as covering a planned route of regular sweeping.  The sweeper cleans the roads before maintenance is done, and again after it has been completed.

The street sweeper is on the road nearly every work day, cleaning streets, gutters, a variety of spills, and traffic accident debris.  In the fall it also sweeps up leaves, and in the winter and spring it picks up excess salt and sand from snow and ice control operations.

You can do your part to help keep your neighborhood clean by picking up litter and sweeping up material from the gutter in front of your house.  Remember, never sweep or blow grass clippings or debris into the street, the gutter, or the storm drain.  Keeping grass and weeds out of the separation joints in the concrete will extend the life of the curb and gutter and keep your house and yard looking well groomed.
